It was not just theory but also highly practical
I found Stamford based on my own individual research on the internet when I looked for recommendation of good international university in Bangkok.
Huy Vien Truong, an International Hotel Management alumni who is now a Managing Director at Miss Saigon & Siam (F&B Group) in Singapore, shares his life at Stamford and work experience.
“I really enjoyed my major. It was really reliable and focused, totally meeting our expectations. We studied valuable courses regarding hotel and restaurant operations, such as Front Office, Housekeeping, Kitchen Cost Control, Bar Management, etc. It was not just theory but also highly practical. While doing my Bachelor’s degree at Stamford, I got the great opportunity to take internships at Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort (managed by Marriott) in the Room Division department for three months and at Sofitel Sukhumvit Bangkok Hotel (managed by Accor) in the Food & Beverage department, also for three months.”
“Before my graduation, I got a good job as Duty Manager in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Then I received a great offer to set up a boutique hotel which included 20 rooms and a restaurant in the city centre. I passed four rounds of interviews to achieve the position of General Manager. It really challenged me because I needed to set up a totally new hotel property. I was really helped by all the credits I had studied at Stamford International University, subjects such as hotel operations, sales & marketing, accounting & finance control. Then I had the great opportunity to do some work on my own business with my business partner. We launched Miss Saigon & Siam (F&B Group) based in Singapore. I took on the responsibility of the Managing Director position to manage operations, planning and developing. So far, we have successfully launched a food stall selling Thai and Vietnamese food at the Novena Square shopping mall. We plan to expand with two more new stalls, with different cuisines, in the next 6 months.”
“When students think of studying in Bangkok, they think of an international environment with a lot of nationality diversity. With lower study fees compared to Malaysia and Singapore, Bangkok really attracts international students who want to experience an international study environment.”
